The Federspiel Foundation is a private operating foundation focused on supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. Our mission is to uphold human dignity by helping people gain the tools, resources, and stability they need to advance their own lives. We focus on those facing the greatest hardship, providing essential support and creating environments that strengthen resilience and self-determination. Our principles guide every initiative we fund, with the goal of creating meaningful, lasting change that benefits individuals, families, and future generations.

Our work is grounded in a simple principle: people thrive when their basic needs are met and they have the resources to shape their own future.

Across the United States, nearly 38 million people live in poverty, and more than 44 million face food insecurity. Globally, an estimated 1 in 10 people lack adequate nutrition, and 1 in 8 struggle with mental-health needs without reliable access to care. These challenges undermine well-being, limit potential, and weaken entire communities.

Our programs respond directly to these realities. We focus on meeting essential needs such as food security, nutrition, healthcare access, mental-health support, and educational opportunity. Because direct financial assistance has been shown to improve stability, reduce stress, and support long-term goal-setting, cash support is one of our primary tools for empowering people with both agency and dignity.
